Urjit Patel
Urjit Patel is a seasoned financial services executive with more than 30 years of industry experience and currently serves as President and Chief Executive Officer of Education First Federal Credit Union. He leads one of the largest credit unions in Southeast Texas, overseeing strategic growth, operational performance, and organizational culture.
Professional Skills
Since joining Education First FCU in 2021 as Chief Operating Officer and advancing to President and CEO in 2024, Urjit has been responsible for guiding an institution serving nearly 33,000 members and managing approximately $600 million in assets. His leadership focuses on long-term strategy development, sustainable growth, operational excellence, and strengthening the credit union’s member-first culture.
Prior to EFFCU, Urjit served as Executive Vice President at Axiom Bank, N.A., where he led large cross-functional teams spanning product development, marketing, and operations. Throughout his career, he has built high-performing teams and implemented initiatives that enhance operational efficiency, improve member experience, and support disciplined financial growth.
Education and Experience
Urjit’s career reflects extensive experience in executive banking leadership, operational strategy, and credit union management. His background includes overseeing complex organizational functions and aligning business objectives with regulatory and community-focused priorities.
He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Management Information Systems from the University of Central Florida and has completed additional lending and operational programs through the American Bankers Association. An active industry advocate, Urjit regularly participates in speaking engagements and community initiatives, contributing to the advancement of the credit union movement and supporting local organizations.
